Soccer

Soccer is the world’s most popular sport. There are currently more than 8,200 youth soccer clubs in the U.S.. As of 2018, there are more than 7 million players between the ages of 6 and 17.

Ice Hockey

As of 2018, the number of youth ice hockey participants amounted to approximately 560,000.

Football

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in tackle football amounted to approximately 5.48 million.

Field Hockey

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in field hockey amounted to approximately 1.51 million.

Wrestling

2018 estimates of youth participants in wrestling in the U.S. come in around 680,000.

Basketball

As of 2015, the number of participants (aged six years to 17 years) in basketball amounted to approximately 10 million.

Lacrosse

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in lacrosse amounted to approximately 2.09 million.

Cheerleading

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in cheerleading amounted to approximately 4.03 million.

Volleyball

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in court volleyball amounted to approximately 6.22 million.

Dance

There are no official figures about how many children are involved in competition dance nationwide, but the number of national competitions has ballooned into the hundreds since the 1980s.

Softball

As of 2016, the number of participants (aged six years and older) in softball amounted to approximately 10.16 million.

Baseball

As of 2015, the number of participants (aged six years to 17 years) in baseball climbed to over 6.7 million.

Gymnastics

As of 2015, the number of participants (aged six years to 17 years) in gymnastics amounted to close to 3 million.

Swimming

Club recognition status (Level I, II, III, IV) denotes a club’s efforts to achieve certain business, operational, and administrative benchmarks recognized as best practices for swim teams outside of the pool.

Ski and Snowboarding

As of 2016, there were approximately 4 million snowboarders in the U.S between the ages of 7 -24.
